Dear Parents/Guardians,

A few messages, events, and dates to share before we head into the long weekend;

Congratulations to Bella L. and Ranier F. on making it to LOSSA yesterday at the Mixed Doubles tournament. These two will join our singles senior team at LOSSA next week! Congratulations and good luck!

Durham Regional Police (DRPS) visited us this past Tuesday to implement a surprise Lockdown Drill. It was our second one of the year and went really well. Good job to all our staff and students!

Our Positive School Climate (PSC) team has been working hard this school year to ensure we have a positive and safe school environment for all. As part of their work, our students, teacher advisors, along with our School Public Health Nurse, have recognized that vaping is a concern amongst secondary and elementary students. As such, our PSC students have been visiting Elementary schools such as, Dr. S.J. Phillips PS, Hillsdale PS and next week, Waverly PS, to run the “Not An Experiment” vaping activity with the Grade 7’s and 8’s. The activity outlines the harmful effects of vaping. The next part of their plan is to visit all our Grade 9 Health classes.

See attached “Let’s Talk about Vaping Parent and Caregiver Resource” as it provides tips to parents on how to bring up the topic of vaping with their kids and outlines the harmful effects of vaping.  The attached "Know the Law!" document speaks to the legal consequences a student will face if they are found vaping on school property. And always remember, that schools can also have consequences if students are found in possession of or vaping on school property.

A huge Thank You to our Positive School Climate team for all their incredible work this year! Remember: Vaping is not harmless-let’s work together to keep our kids vape free!
