O’Neill Collegiate and Vocational Institute serves students in grades 9-12 in Oshawa, Ontario. O’Neill C.V.I. has been serving Oshawa community students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds since 1910. Students, teachers, parents, the School Community Council and other members of the school and Oshawa community work together to create a positive environment that helps students achieve the expectations of the Ontario Secondary School Curriculum. At O’Neill, students are offered a wide range of curricular and co-curricular opportunities that set clear expectations for academic achievement, responsible behaviour, respect for people, property and ideas; and that develop communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills.
Our goal is to provide equal opportunities to students from all backgrounds and levels of ability to reach their unique potential; to cultivate skills and attitudes essential for continuous learning and growth; and to nurture responsible citizenship. We offer courses at the Gifted/Enriched,
Academic/Applied, Essential and Locally Developed levels. We provide additional support and enrichment through student leadership programs such as: a grade 12 Leadership class, a Physical Health Education Leadership class, Peer Tutoring, O’Neill Athletic Council, Performing Arts Council, Visual Arts Council, and the Students’ Council. Students receive further enrichment and growth through participation in the Performing Arts program; Visual Arts program; the vocal, instrumental and jazz ensembles; the O’Neill art exhibition; theatrical performances; Specialist High Skills Major program, Students Together Against Racism program; a variety of athletic teams and clubs; and through participation in math contests at the provincial and national
levels. O’Neill students also participate in fundraising for numerous charitable organizations.
